a boy paced the sidewalk with his dog as the afternoon grew longer. he didn't want to go inside, but wasn't sure he was ready to leave now--maybe we should wait until tomorrow? in the end he would always wind up wasting the rest of daylight there, on the curb in front of his house weighing the pros and cons.
i could go to jess's house, but then i'd have to go through the park--i shouldn't go through the park alone. maybe i should visit zuzu's store to get ice cream, but then i'd have to have money to get the ice cream....which i don't. there's no one here to play, but why call anyone? i'm sure they're busy. staying here would be okay, but boring and i always do that. i want to change...
and then, seamlessly, he found the key--he wanted to change. he needed to change. then, he would change. but how?
he spoke to amma, who walked with him through the park to visit jess. the three of them went to zuzu's where amma treated them to double scoop ice cream cones with toppings. he spent time with jess until dinner, and went home satisfied.

satisfaction and happiness comes from patience, problem solving, and transition. some transitions are easier than others, but they'll all come about eventually--if you're willing to make them happen.
